You'll have got the idea that I quite like it, so why am I always on tenterhooks when people stay? It's not a palace - just a country cottage - but I do want people to keep telling me how nice it is!! If there is a problem, I must know in order to put it right, or if anything is not quite how you expected. My hope is that it more than matches your expectations.

Here are a few comments we've received. I'd welcome yours to add here.

We had a wonderful time in France and loved the cottage. We quickly made friends with Bernard and Marie-Therese , enjoying cider and Calvados with them and they with us. We got vegetables from the farm together with "Calva" and eggs to bring home and we spoke in French the whole time !! Discussions on Iraq and local politics were interesting to say the least !! Still you can be fluent in any language after a few glasses of the local brew !! Oh yes, we also rode on the tractor and also on the son's very grand tractor. Next time I am going to learn to drive it !!

We much appreciated the space of the cottage, two bathrooms, decent cutlery and crockery, a decent cooker, etc, etc. and the situation was "trés douce, trés tranquille".

Your Gite is really very nice the beds are comfortable the two bathrooms great, very nice crockery and cutlery, and nicely furnished.  It is so peaceful and the ducks were great.  Eating out there was so good and so cheap, we couldnt believe how cheap.

We really appreciated the standard of furniture and white goods and felt the gite was very comfortable and homely. We also liked the crockery and especially the cutlery (Arthur Price no less!).

Everything was as good as you'd advertised. It is a most delightful setting.

BAD COMMENTS

I do get bad ones too! But please understand - it is virtually in the middle of a field. The grass may be over your ankles, though we do get it cut every few weeks. It is not a lawn. And there is a drive, parking and area with garden furniture.

And it is in the country, so when it is the time of year for baby spiders, some of them will get in the house. It is vaccuumed every week, and the vaccuum is there if there's a new influx.

And it is quiet. Although the boulangerie is 5 minutes away, and the town about 10 minutes - Caen (huge), Bayeux (pretty), Festyland and Jurques Zoo (kids!) are all within 45 kilometres.  There are plenty of  fields, footpaths and country roads to explore around the cottage.

The oven failed in 2004 (just over a year old) but noone mentioned it to me for the next two weeks! In fact, if they'd read the instruction page it told you there how to use it. Wasn't broken at all! Do phone if there is a problem. Arriving in the dark? There is an outside light - switch is outside by the first door (cave) and can be switched off in the kitchen. There was a small puddle of water by the fire that must have come down the chimney - but then 2004 was an awful summer, the wettest on record and as you can see it is a new roof. These things happen! Someone complained that people had left out-of-date food in the kitchen. But we do provide a bin! Also the toilet seat broke. That was a disaster. Fair enough! French toilets! Now sorted!!

I do feel that some people make an absolute meal of things (but then they were stuck inside with several children and it poured all week. So I understand!) But you are the customer. I do strive to make sure it is better than you had hoped. If there is a problem - phone. Your advice and comments are useful and I will act as soon as possible if there is a problem. Honest!
