  • We had a wonderful time in France and loved the cottage. We quickly made friends with Bernard and Marie-Therese , enjoying cider and Calvados with them and they with us.
  • We much appreciated the space of the cottage, two bathrooms, decent cutlery and crockery, a decent cooker, etc, etc. and the situation was "trés douce, trés tranquille".
  • Your Gite is really very nice the beds are comfortable the two bathrooms great, very nice crockery and cutlery, and nicely furnished. It is so peaceful and the ducks were great. Eating out there was so good and so cheap, we couldnt believe how cheap.
  • We really appreciated the standard of furniture and white goods and felt the gite was very comfortable and homely. We also liked the crockery and especially the cutlery (Arthur Price no less!).
  • Everything was as good as you'd advertised. It is a most delightful setting. plenty of hot water and excellent shower. Great position, great location.
  • We got vegetables from the farm together with "Calva" and eggs to bring home and we spoke in French the whole time !! Discussions on Iraq and local politics were interesting to say the least !! Still you can be fluent in any language after a few glasses of the local brew !!
  • Had reservations, being a townie but it grew on us. In my minds eye I have moved in permanently! Love the peacefulness and the countryside. Been to the American cemetery, had lump in my throat. Had lovely time, gone to quick!
"Frogs by Rosbif" is my blog, mere musings not he French and their happy little ways.
Wizard Wonky is a great children's entertainer. Imagine a not-very-clever Wizard, hopeless at magic, brilliant at Balloon Animals and games. That's me - a real Wizard in gown and hat. Wherever there are children - and you wish there weren't - I'll keep them entertained!

So when is it worth viewing? Check when it's NOT booked and contact the
estate agent for the key. Also Marc Trouverie, on the roundabout in Vire has it for sale.

Here it is described:
Despite its calm, out of the way setting, the house is in fact no more than a ten minute drive from both the quaint market town of Sourdeval and the lively, bustling town of Vire, with its supermarkets, cinema and all modern amenities.
There is hard standing to the frontage, with space in which to turn and park several vehicles. The grounds are approximately 2000 square metres in area, are grassed, and slope gently until they fall away to the stream which borders the property.
The property consists of four principal rooms and a kitchen, bathroom with WC, shower room with WC, attached “cave” and outside storage room, as follows:
The external door leads directly into the kitchen area (10 square metres) with double drainer sink, work top with storage below and wall cupboards. The floor is tiled, and there is a wood strip ceiling and painted stone walls. There is a single, side opening window. The rest of the property is accessed from the kitchen.
The light and airy dining room (12 square metres) has a ceramic tile floor, lined walls and ceiling, and a large side opening double window giving lovely views of the grounds and surrounding countryside.
The living room (16 square metres) has a ceramic tile floor, ceiling with exposed beams and joists, an inset shelving area, and a stone hearth containing a large, inset wood burning stove with log storage space below. It, too, has a large, double, side opening window with views of the grounds. An internal door gives access to the principal bedroom.
The principal bedroom (11.5 square metres) has a ceramic tile floor, a pine wood strip ceiling and a double, side opening window to the front, with a small window set in a high niche to the rear wall.
From the rear of the kitchen a door gives access to a short corridor (3 square metres) containing connections for a washing machine, and access to:
The bathroom (4 square metres), with a ceramic tile floor, tiled and wood strip walls and ceiling, and a window to the rear of the property. There is a bath with shower mixer, washbasin and WC.
The shower room (3.5 square metres) has a ceramic tile floor, tiled and wood strip walls and ceiling, and a small window to the rear. There is a washbasin and WC in addition to the shower.
The “cave” (13 square metres) is entered from an external door at the eastern end of the building. It has lighting and power outlets, and makes an extremely useful workshop/storage area. It has a small window to the rear. The main fuse box is to be found here.

A pleasant, south facing, single storey country house built in the longère style and extended to include a second bedroom, a modern bathroom and a shower room. The property is set in peaceful, rolling countryside at the head of its own small valley. Local shops, restaurant and bar are just two minutes away by car.
