Types of holiday

There are so many leaflets and places to go for families, children and just plain ornery folk. Here's just a very few.

Wine & Cheese

Camembert is nearby - and you are in Calvados. And that is just the start! It is easy to pick up a leaflet from the Tourist Office and go on a tasting and buying Food Trail.

Walking

To the West it undulates, across La Manche (the peninsula) over to Mont St Michel. To the East - well this is the Haute Normandie - the Suisse Normand. There are rocks and forests, gorges and waterfalls, many rivers and so on. We really are in the middle of so many different types of holiday!

Sports

There is an outdoor pool a few miles away, a golf course, a brand new indoor pool in Vire. There is a lake with everything you can do on lakes. There is Bunjee jumping. Cycling - everything you could wish for!

Lazy Days

Tour in the car and see everything from OTHER people Bunjee jumping, the Gorges. Or just sit at home and watch the ducks, the birds, any activity across the valley. More wine?

Food

You just need a trip into Vire to stock up and then straight back home. Do that each day and you can call it an Activity Holiday. Fresh fruit (and I mean fresh!), vegetables, cheeses and breads, wonderful fruit tarts and cream. More wine?

Seasides

To the west are the long golden beaches of the Cotentin peninsula. Go to Granville for a lovely seaside trip. Trips to the Channel islands leave from here. The northern beaches are long and pretty and famous. Go further up the coast to Deauville and Honfleur. Discover - there are many!

World War 2 sites

We are within 45 minutes of Bayeaux which is the end of a 'Beaches Trail' beginning at Caen. Caen has a wonderful exhibition which will take you all morning to view (at least) and has a cafe too. At Bayeaux there are various excellent restaurants. Vire is where the destruction virtually stopped as the forces pre-bombed this area to get rid of the Germans. You are centrally placed between St Malo, Avranches, Normandy beaches and Caen, roughly speaking.

Shopping

Caen is huge - it has an excellent old quarter and a large new half. There is out of town shopping, too. Vire is worth a day looking round and has a huge market on Fridays. Other towns have excellent shops - from Bayeaux to Avranche and of course - the ultimate souvenir shopping trip to Mont St Michel. Lastly - God's town of frying pans you just have to see! (Villedieu les poeles). Oh - don't forget to discover all the Depot Vente (huge second hand and antique warehouses).
